Human Nutrition (Nutrition & Exercise Science) BSc Honours

Course Description

This degree focuses on the role that exercise and nutrition play in all aspects of human health and disease. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the course draws on physiology, nutrition and psychology as they apply to exercise and health. You will gain a solid scientific grounding on which to develop your vocational ambitions in the areas of exercise performance, health and well-being. We have well-equipped, state-of-the art laboratories in all bioscience disciplines including a suite of highly specialised biochemical test facilities for analysing the effects of exercise on metabolism, nutritional analysis, whole body metabolism and determination of body composition. A lively research culture is reflected in current studies into performance physiology and nutrition, Type 2 diabetes, exercise metabolism, muscle atrophy and hypertrophy, as well as exercise and environmental physiology. Completion of this course will open up a wide range of opportunities in various growth sectors, including applied exercise scientists for the NHS and UK Athletics, research, education, media, the fitness industry, and clinical exercise physiology.
