This three-year degree in Mechanical Engineering meets the core technical requirements for accreditation by IMechE and allows graduates to achieve chartered status subject to the completion of approved additional learning. Throughout this Mechanical Engineering degree course you will spend time in lectures and the laboratory as well as on design activities that relate theory to practice and combine analytical skills and creativity in the solution of real engineering problems. Design is an important theme which runs through all years of our courses. In the third year you will undertake an individual project, ranging from design studies to open-ended experimental or theoretical research. This project will arise from a real need and may be sponsored by industry (you may suggest topics in line with your sponsor's interests). The first two years of the course will focus on the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and give you the confidence to apply them. The content during these years is identical to the MEng course. Design is an essential theme that runs throughout our Mechanical Engineering courses. We inspire our students to address the real needs of society. During this course, you will work on a series of individual and group projects in our new design workshops and studios. In your year 1 induction, you will have the opportunity to take apart and reconstruct a 4-stroke engine and build a fully functioning 3D printer in year 2. In your final year, you will undertake an individual design or research project. This project will arise from a real engineering need and may be sponsored by industry.
