Course Description

Bringing together our internationally recognised expertise in Clinical Language Sciences and in Psychology, this three-year programme offers you a multidisciplinary approach to the study of mind and communication, including language development and its disorders. You will study core modules in linguistics, psychology and speech and language therapy, whilst also developing a range of communication and research skills that are transferable across a wide range of client groups and settings. In addition to covering empirical and theoretical aspects of language sciences and psychology, the programme offers a clinical module involving observation of speech and language therapy in practice in the School's state-of-the-art speech and language therapy clinic. We provide placement opportunities throughout the three years of the course. In the first year you will team up with a speech and language therapy student and complete the child development assignment. In years 2 and 3 there are opportunities to engage in volunteer work. Towards the end of the second year you can apply for a summer vacation placement which involves working with a member of academic staff on a research project. The degree leads to graduate basis for accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS). As well as providing the career flexibility available to all psychology and linguistics graduates, the degree is an excellent platform for postgraduate training in speech and language therapy.
