By describing and quantifying natural change we can then accurately assess the impact that human activity has on our planet and develop strategies for the sustainable use of the Earth's resources. Studying Environmental Science will provide you with an essential range of academic, practical and field skills. Our wide range of options means that you can tailor your module choices to suit your own strengths and interests. You can also select your own final year practical-based research project. You will have the opportunity to undertake a placement ranging from a short mini-project involving work for a local company or organisation such as the Environment Agency or a wildlife group, to a full year of professional experience. You may also choose to attend field classes in Spain and Tenerife. Studying the MEnvSci will allow you to further develop your specialism by giving you access to Masters level topics. Recent examples of specialisms that students have taken include Climate Change, Water Resource Management and Habitat Management.

A degree in geography arms you with the ability to see the big picture. The intellectual, technical and team working skills gained during the course can be applied to a wide range of careers in education, commerce, government and environmental consultancy. The need for professional environmental scientists with a sound scientific background continues to grow; opportunities for graduates from this degree include employment by environmental consultancies, water companies, as well as waste disposal and pollution monitoring companies. Many of our graduates undertake a specialised MSc course, e.g. in hydrogeology, basin analysis, renewable resources, environmental science before entering employment or a research career.
