Course Description

This course aims to provide you with advanced skills in legal research, the ability to undertake high level analysis of law and legal issues, a grasp of the research methods that underpin the discipline and its places in the humanities and the social sciences, and a grounding in legal research methods. It is especially suited to candidates who wish to undertake a PhD or professional research in law and the administration of justice and it emphasises the interdisciplinary study of law.During your studies, there is also usually the opportunity to go on an Annual Study Trip to Geneva to visit international organisations and meet with their staff to gain a practical insight into their work.

Career outcomes

Graduates from our LLM programme subsequently work for various international organisations and NGOs, as well as lawyers for leading commercial law firms and in-house legal teams for large multinationals in the UK and abroad. A good proportion of our recent graduates are working with the European Union, the International Criminal Court (ICC), International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY), and International Police (INTERPOL), among others. Some of our international graduates are also engaged in work leading to careers in foreign and diplomatic affairs in their different countries or are working with non-governmental organisations. Many of our UK and international graduates have pursued careers as academic lawyers in the UK and overseas.
