MEng Electronic Engineering

Course Description

Are you an inventor, a designer, someone who makes things work? Do you envisage yourself being a driving force behind the development of many future inventions? Can you advance previous spearheading previous successful advances in technology? From active suspension units in Formula 1 cars to supercomputers, from MP3 players to industrial robots and from virtual reality games to high fidelity music amplification and playback, these inventions have highly affected our day to day living as a species. The MEng degree programme allows you study Electronic Engineering in more depth and includes a range of additional modules as well as a six month industrial placement or research project in the fourth year. This course is accredited by the Institute of Measurement & Control and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Career prospects are excellent. Reading is at the heart of the Thames Valley IT industry, which is known as the UK's Silicon Valley. As such, within a 10 mile radius of the University, we have companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Fujitsu-Siemens Ericsson, Cisco, IBM and many more, all of whom are eager to recruit our graduates. Many of these companies also visit the University in order to directly recruit our best graduates. Companies such as IBM and Ernst and Young even provide a mock assessment centre, in which they put you through the paces of their recruitment process and give you invaluable feedback before you actually apply for their jobs.
