Course Description

What is Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences ? Hoxworth Blood Center, through the College of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Analytical and Diagnostic Sciences, offers a 15-month graduate program leading to a Masters of Science degree in Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences. Applicants must apply for one of two tracks: Blood Transfusion Medicine or Cellular Therapies. Training is conducted primarily at Hoxworth Blood Center, a division of the University of Cincinnati Academic Medical Center. Hoxworth is one of the oldest community blood centers in the country. Students in the program have access to the libraries, computer resources and other facilities within the College of Medicine, College of Allied Health Sciences and other areas of the University of Cincinnati. Each year, Hoxworth collects approximately 98,000 units of whole blood and 15,000 Apheresis red bloods cells for use at 32 area hospitals. Hoxworth is the transfusion service for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Hoxworth has active Apheresis, Transplantation Immunology, Cellular Therapy, Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and Research Departments. Approximately 250 employees support the mission and service of the blood center.
