Course Description

What is Political Science ? The Political Science Department offers the Ph.D. program for students who are pursuing careers in teaching, public policy, research, or careers in international organizations. Students pursuing the Ph.D. in political science may specialize in the fields of American Politics or International Studies. In American Politics, the department’s primary focus is Political Behavior, Public Opinion and Survey Research. The field of International Studies focuses on issues related to security and governance. Areas of faculty research include international relations theory and national security studies; global issues including political economy, international organization and law, nationalism and identity, and area studies with specializations in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The department also offers the dual degrees M.A. / J.D. and Ph.D. / J.D. in conjunction with the College of Law at the University of Cincinnati and a dual degree program with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Austria. Doctoral students may also complete a graduate certificate in Security Studies, in Public Opinion and Survey Research, or a cross-disciplinary certificate in Asian Studies.
