Course Description

What is MOL, CELL & BIOCHEM PHRM-SAFETY PHARM ? Pharmacology, a foundation field of biomedicine, studies the actions of drug molecules in the body. Safety Pharmacology investigates off-target adverse effects of drugs under development. Pharmacologists play a vital role in the process of discovery and development of effective and safe drugs. The discipline of pharmacology is distinct from the profession of pharmacy, which addresses formulation and dispensing of approved drugs. The program is designed to prepare students for advanced academic training (MD, PhD, PharmD, DVM) in life sciences, employment in the pharmaceutical industry, contract research organizations, or regulatory agencies (FDA, CDC). This non-thesis MS program begins in mid-August and ends in late May for full-time on-site students. Students will be trained in important areas of modern Pharmacology, emphasizing Safety Pharmacology, through formal courses, seminars, and exposure to modern experimental models and methods. Research opportunities are also available during laboratory rotations. Drug Industry partners from Battelle, Covance, Eli Lilly, WIL, QTest, Johnson & Johnson, et al., participate in course delivery.
