The first two years are common to all students, whichever course of study you are following. Teaching is based on five main themes: Design; Dynamics; Materials; Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics. Lectures in the five main themes of study continue in the remaining years at an advanced level. The timetable in years one and two includes lectures, problem-solving seminars, design and manufacturing project work, presentation skills, laboratory experiments and study visits to engineering companies. A strong feature of the final two years is project work. Students pair up to undertake a technical project in year three.
