About MEng Mechanical Engineering The first two years are common across our mechanical engineering degrees. Teaching is based on five main themes: Design Dynamics Materials Thermodynamics Fluid Mechanics. Years one and two include lectures, problem-solving seminars, design and manufacturing project work, presentation skills, laboratory experiments and study visits to engineering companies. Project work is a strong feature of the final two years. You will pair up with another student for a technical project in year three, and in year four you will undertake a major industrial project within a team. You have the opportunity to specialise in your fourth year. This degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). An accredited degree will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
