Graduates of our Quay School of Arts in Whanganui exhibit in galleries throughout New Zealand, Australia and Europe. The degree has a diverse curriculum with a broad range of studio and academic resources. Students are encouraged to explore contemporary issues while developing art processes and techniques as they attain the level of technical, conceptual and professional aspects required to become a fine arts practitioner. As a student, in your first year of study you will experience the five media areas of printmaking, painting, sculpture, photography and glass*. Second year students narrow their study to two media areas, and in years three and four, students choose one media area of specialisation. The final part of the degree will see you completing a detailed research paper, a self-directed project with mentor support from your lecturers, and a professional public exhibition. With one of the largest tertiary student art prizes in New Zealand only available to Quay School of the Arts students and your own studio space, this is the place to start your art profession.
