Electrical Engineering MEng

Course Description

The electrical industry is one of the UK's largest industrial sectors and plays a key role in the UK economy. The industry has a growing need for graduate engineers as it makes improvements to the existing electrical supply network, the development of localised power generation, and the integration of renewable energy technologies. Our Electrical Engineering degree has been designed with input from employers such as Alstom, ABB, Siemens and JCB. You'll develop the core electrical, electronic, mechanical, mathematical, communication and commercial skills that employers want. The course follows a similar first year to our other engineering degrees. Then, in Year 2 and Year 3, you'll study specialist electrical engineering and power electronic modules. We have strong links with industry, so you could also take an optional industrial placement before your final year. In your third year, you'll complete a substantial individual electrical engineering project and in your final year you'll have the chance to present your work to potential employers at our graduate exhibition and you'll get to participate in local and cross-university events organised by the IET. Many graduates enter employment when they finish this course. Others continue their studies with a taught postgraduate MSc degree or a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil or PhD.
