We welcome applications from those with performing arts, theatre studies, drama and/or English literature qualifications. But you don't need to have had lots of drama or acting experience to apply - just a willingness to engage and an openness to the creative process. Our lecturers: Have worked as actors, directors and designers. Specialise in acting, directing, lighting design, sound design, playwriting, production management, physical theatre and music theatre. Research specific areas of interest, including theatre history, documentary and verbatim theatre, 18th century theatre, black British theatre, contemporary British theatre, psychophysical acting, social realism and community theatre. We have state-of-the-art technical facilities for your productions as well as strong links with local theatres and arts organisations. We also run theatre visits to London, Stratford upon Avon and New York. You'll learn through a mixture of practical workshops and classroom-based theory. You'll be assessed via presentations, coursework or take-away papers (no formal exams). You Year 2 arts project - with input from an external company - and an optional Year 3 professional placement allow you to apply a real world approach to your studies. All modules in Year 3 are optional, so you can structure your learning to your own strengths.

Acting and Theatre Arts Students are supported in a) study skills and b) employability in a variety of ways. At Level 4, students undertake the `Staffordshire Graduate' Programme where they are taught skills in studying effectively, communication and presentation, careers advice, CV and Portfolio writing, At Level 5, students continue to build on this with targeted CVs, continued study skills, careers advice sessions and the study of self-employment and enterprise. At level 6, students can apply this knowledge through a variety of outward facing employability related modules, including Professional Placement, Applied Theatre and Small Scale Theatre. Drama staff work with the careers department to support students in their exit point pathways, whether it be postgraduate study or into the world of work.
