Social Welfare Law, Policy and Advice Practice BA(Hons)

Course Description

Our Social Welfare Law, Policy and Advice Practice degree works in three stages. In Year 1 - at certificate level - you'll study a range of modules in social welfare subjects. This will give you the knowledge and skills you need to begin a career in the sector or to progress with your studies. In Year 2 - at diploma level - you'll have the opportunity to volunteer. This will form the basis of reflective practice and you'll produce an e-portfolio. In Year 3 - at degree level - you'll develop your abilities in preparation for working in the social welfare sector. You'll write a dissertation on your specific area of interest. And you'll take additional modules to further refine your skills. The course is delivered by a blended learning approach. You'll combine face-to-face and online learning to allow a flexible approach to your study. When you graduate, you'll find employment opportunities with organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, social housing providers, or in voluntary organisations providing advice and support to specific client groups such as older people, victims of domestic violence or people with mental health problems. You could also find work with Local Authority advice services or in specialised agencies in areas such as consumer protection, debt advice, housing advice and immigration advice.
