You'll learn how to produce financial accounts, interpret financial statements and make managerial and financial decisions in modern business. As well as becoming familiar with accounting software, you'll also learn how to communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences effectively. And you'll gain a solid understanding of personal and business taxation. In your final year, you'll cover problem solving and analysis in a complex business context. You'll also develop research and data analysis skills in preparation for a financial research project and you'll acquire the qualities needed for either employment or further training. If you want to continue your education when you finish this course, you'll be eligible for exemptions granted by internationally-recognised professional accountancy bodies.

The Accounting and Finance with a Foundation Year course provides an opportunity for you to benefit from a year's work placement between levels 5 and 6. This will allow you to gain valuable work experience and learn how to apply your learning in a practical work environment. The university’s Placements Office provides advice and guidance, and will assist you to secure a placement position whilst your Placement Supervisor will monitor your progress on the placement through meetings with you and the employer. On successful completion of your placement you will have achieved the University Certificate - Continuing Professional Development in Employment (30 Credits).
