This program is for remedial massage therapists who want to practise myotherapy. The program allows you to build on your existing skills as a remedial massage therapist, deepening your understanding of the musculoskeletal system and inherent movement patterns. You’ll apply clinical reasoning to uncover the underlying causes of pain, developing sophisticated skills in palpation, performing refined movement assessment tests, functional movement analysis, and nerve tension tests. Clinical myotherapists treat myofascial pain (caused by trauma or muscle contracture), neuropathic pain (from the nervous system) and articular pain (in the joints). They use treatment methods such as deep tissue modalities, myofascial techniques, triggerpoint therapy, cupping, myofascial dry needling, prescriptive and rehabilitation exercises, joint mobilisation and pain management techniques. You’ll enhance your client consultation practices, learn to develop preventative management plans, and use evidence-based treatment protocols. In our Myotherapy Teaching Clinic, you’ll be able to apply your practical skills and learn advanced business skills needed to manage staff and run your own practice. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a placement with one of our industry placement partners.
