Course Description

The honours program is an intensive 1-year program designed to support your development as a practising artist and active researcher in the fine arts. The courses within the program will assist you in developing a specialised practice, while also providing you with advanced cognitive, conceptual, technical and communication skills. A flexible curriculum provides opportunities for you to further your knowledge and capacity for professional or highly-skilled employment, and/or further learning at a postgraduate level. This program provides a critical and supportive environment emphasising independent research, scholarly enquiry and practical skill development. In consultation with experienced academic staff, you will develop your own project and course of study, encouraging you to be knowledgeable across modes of practice and able to think critically through specialisation. Many of our alumni have won national and international awards and have continued on to postgraduate research study.

The arts and creative industries continue to grow in Melbourne due to increased interest and government support. Funding opportunities remain ample and established institutions including Federation Square, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), combined with growing commercial and artist-run spaces, provide exciting opportunities for graduates. Multi-skilled and employable in a range of creative industries, our Fine Arts graduates continue to make significant contributions to contemporary art and culture, nationally and internationally. Many of our graduates have continued on to become: artists commercial photographers sound engineers teachers/academics curators technicians museum coordinators filmmakers.
