This course is based on NZQA unit standards and prepares students towards the internationally recognised CompTIA certification of A+. It also introduces the basics of another CompTIA certification Network+. The first semester covers an explanation of PC components followed by in-depth sessions on computer hardware. Students learn how to assemble, service and configure a personal computer system. Computer assembling incorporates the basic concepts of troubleshooting and installing operating systems. In the second semester students continue to learn more about configuration and are introduced to the basics of networking. Students learn and discuss various network topologies and commonly used network media. Students are introduced to network protocols and their standards.
