The degree is modern and global in its focus, spanning the period from 1750 to the present and focusing mostly on the twentieth century. Its subject matter includes Britain and Continental Europe, but extends further afield to North America, the Soviet Union and China. The four-day field trip to Berlin available to all single-honours History students in the second semester of the first year is unique. In the first year you will be offered broad survey modules such as World History and the Atlantic World covering a large region and a long chronological period. This allows you to sample many types of history and then choose your area of specialism in your second and third year
