This combined materials engineering and design course considers products from the point of view of the materials from which they are made and how we design with the optimum choices of engineering materials to meet specified requirements. This is critical for ‘Cradle to Grave’ design where a product is considered from concept, through manufacture and usage to end of life and reuse or recycling. This course will equip students for a career in design as a materials specialist. It is well suited to those who like to understand how and why products work, rather than just the aesthetics and external appearance.
