n the realm of filmmaking, storytelling, technology, and art come together for an impactful experience. The Film Production MFA can prepare you for many unique roles in film creation – it just depends on where your passion lies. All films start with a concept, and it’s the responsibility of a director to make sure that concept is carried out from beginning to end. Cinematographers help to maintain the integrity of that vision during shooting, by planning the camera setups and lighting cues, and art directors oversee other visual aspects such as set design. Key grips work alongside lighting and cinematographers to coordinate lighting and camera setup. Producers, production managers, and production assistants serve as creative managers, handling the logistics of film shoots – including budgets, casting, and scheduling, as well as securing permits when necessary. Once a film is in postproduction, editors take footage and cut it together in a way that delivers the best sense of a structure and pacing, while sound mixers oversee the integration of dialog, music, and sound effects.
