Graduates of CSU's Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine find employment in private podiatry practice, hospitals, health care facilities, sporting clubs, footwear design and community settings. The Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine prepares graduates for professional practice or further study. Graduates are competent and ethical practitioners, capable of sustainable and evidence based practice in both independent and interprofessional contexts. The course has a strong emphasis on clinical podiatry. Graduates have extensive workplace experience in public health and private practice settings. The course has been developed to meet the requirements of the Podiatry Board of Australia, and national registration enables graduates to work in all states and territories of Australia. CSU's Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine was the first podiatry course offered by a regional university in Australia and was developed in response to the shortage of podiatrists in non-metropolitan areas of Australia. Podiatry has a very important role to play in the health of Australia. Through screening of the feet of people with diabetes, risk prevention and providing foot care in a number of populations, podiatrists can delay and prevent hospitalisation for many patients, saving money from the government health budget. Podiatrists play an important role in the maintenance of mobility and general health and independence of many members of the community. Podiatrists have a major part to play in the treatment and education of people with sports injuries and lower limb biomechanical problems. They assess and treat many conditions of the lower limb in walking, running and during sport.
