Course Description
This programme will provide you with an intensive, structured introduction to research if you are planning to become an academic or industrial researcher, or wish to prepare for future PhD studies. The programme is designed to develop core abilities that successful research depends upon. These include critical judgement, intellectual integrity and academic rigour.
The programme provides direct access to, and supervision from, research experts who provide invaluable context, support and feedback during a range of intensive core research modules. These are structured to let you exercise and develop your analytical, creative and scientifically rigorous skill set and will involve very small group teaching.
Your subject knowledge will be developed further through optional modules in areas of specialism and subject leadership from within the School including Informatics, Visual Computing and Distributed and Scientific Computing. Your choice of dissertation will align with this internationally recognised research in a topic based around your own areas of interest. The programme will leave you with a long-term career investment, enabling you to undertake with confidence, a complex future research study.
This degree programme follows a modular pattern based on two semesters with an initial emphasis on taught material and includes a substantial individual project completed during the summer. To achieve the MRes degree you will need 180 credits; 80 credits will come from taught modules and 100 credits from your project. This is a one year, full-time programme.
