The Cardiff Biomedical Science BSc is a research-led degree, exploring the biological science that underpins all of medicine and medical research. On this course you will study human physiology, anatomy, pharmacology and neuroscience with the option to continue follow this broad approach or to specialise in one of these areas at the end of Year One. As a biomedical science student at Cardiff, you will have a large degree of choice with regards to what you study with a wide range of optional modules on offer. These modules and research project topics reflect the School’s diverse research interests in biomedical science. The Professional Training Year offers you the opportunity to spend a period of 9 – 12 months in an academic, clinical or industrial research laboratory or other approved establishment to gain first hand research experience.

The knowledge and skills that you will develop on the Biomedical Science BSc will make you employable in a broad range of careers such as research, sales, publishing and teaching. Alternatively, you may wish to further your studies with a higher degree. The course provides a good foundation for all, who might want to go on to study Medicine or any of the Healthcare Disciplines. In 2010, 89% of the School’s graduates were in employment or further study within six months of graduation while others were taking time out to travel etc. Employers included: universities and hospitals in the UK and overseas, local government departments, museums and organisations such as the BBC and National Museum of Wales.
