Certificate in Science and Technology

Course Description

The Certificate in Science and Technology is designed for students with insufficient NCEA credits for direct entry into undergraduate degrees in computer and mathematical sciences. This programme provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences. Students develop essential mathematics, literacy and science knowledge, and critical and independent thinking skills that prepare them to succeed at tertiary level. This programme will: Develop your knowledge and study skills to succeed at tertiary level Prepare you for university study and increase your academic confidence Provide a pathway to bachelor’s degrees in Computer and Mathematics Expose you to the university environment Students who successfully complete the full certificate (8 papers) will gain the equivalent of University Entrance (AES) and are eligible to be considered for entry to their preferred AUT bachelor’s degree. Students who successfully complete four certificate papers over one semester of study, with a ‘B’ average or higher, may be allowed to progress directly into degree level study. This one semester pathway is only available to students that have completed year 13 at secondary school or have completed year 12 and had a 6 month ‘stand down’ period prior to commencing the Certificate.
