This is the only degree of its kind in the country that has recognition from the Society of Biology and accreditation from the Forensic Science Society. Forensic biologists must be able to search scenes and evidential items meticulously to identify any body fluids present, collect and examine hairs and textile fibres, complete DNA analysis and analyse entomological, botanical and basic anthropological evidence too. A degree in forensic biology equips you with these recovery and analytical skills, as well as the understanding required to interpret results. This course has been accredited by the Forensic Science Society You also develop an advanced understanding of molecular biology, immunology, physiology and microbiology – areas of biology which are key for a graduate scientist. Graduates are ideally suited to work in biological professions - in particular forensic biology, within forensic science laboratories, and pathology, hospital and analytical laboratories. Integral to our Forensic Biology degree is the chance to develop practical skills through casework-related examinations carried out in our extensive laboratories.

Due to the range of knowledge and skills you acquire through the degree, graduates are ideally suited to work in biological professions, in particular forensic biology. This could be within forensic science laboratories and pathology, hospital and analytical laboratories. Recent graduates have obtained jobs at Cellmark Forensic Services and at LGC Forensics as Forensic and DNA analysts. Other positions have been obtained at Merck, Sharp & Dohme and on a range of MSc courses throughout the country.
