This programme is a useful introduction to different aspects of the music industry – particularly live sound, audio engineering and music performance – and is designed to help you decide your area of speciality. Study the basics of music and sound. Build your skills and confidence with a mix of theory and practical exercises. Join a group, rehearse and enjoy plenty of opportunities to receive regular band tuition and perform on your chosen instrument. Begin to learn the mechanics of multi-track recording and the use of digital effects. Guest speakers and performers will keep you entertained and give valuable insight into the reality of a career in music. A highlight of the year will be working with your fellow students on a class recording project. From composition, pre-production, recording, engineering, mixing and mastering, you’ll contribute to an album of original songs and have a unique souvenir of your Foundation year. As this programme is designed to prepare you for further successful study at MAINZ, you’ll also working on improving your communication, numeracy, literacy, computer and self-directed study skills.
