Are you fascinated by how media can influence and shape modern culture? On Solent’s media culture and production degree you’ll learn production skills such as video editing, photography, and radio, combined with the study of media cultural theory in western and non-western contexts. Studying at one of the UK’s top creative universities, you’ll be taught by an experienced academic team and will also have access to industry-standard facilities where you can develop a professional show-reel. Teaching is delivered by a team of academics with extensive experience in the film and television industries in areas such as critical analysis, production, directing and screenwriting. The course curriculum is built around practical insights into the media industry and culture and focuses on analysing the media, studying screen cultures and industries, and entrepreneurial practice, as well as multi-media production in video, radio and photography. Solent University’s media academy is a hub for creative students and boasts facilities including green screen TV studios, HD broadcasting equipment, an extensive media loans centre and specialist audio recording studios. Students also have access to a wide range of professional equipment including HD video cameras, DSLR's with a wide range of lenses, professional lighting rigs and high-end sound equipment for on-location shoots. In previous years, students have benefitted from a range of guest lectures from high-profile industry speakers. Solent University promotes a culture of cross-disciplinary collaboration and students on this degree can have the opportunity to work on exciting joint projects with photographers, musicians, performers, make-up artists and hair designers. Students are also encouraged to gain work experience opportunities through Solent Creatives, our on-campus, student-run creative agency; our on-campus video production unit, Solent Productions or Solent TV, our online channel produced by students. For external work experience opportunities, the course team’s strong industry links have allowed past students to work with organisations such as Glastonbury, Truckfest and Boardmasters festivals. Solent university is also home to a 3D cinema - the only one available for student use in a European university.
