MA Environmental Policy

Course Description

The MA program offers both course and thesis options. The course option can be completed in one year of full-time study while the thesis option can be completed in two years. Both options include an internship. The MA in Environmental Policy program is offered by the School of Science and the Environment at Grenfell Campus. Located in Corner Brook in traditional Mi’kmaw territory, Grenfell Campus is renowned for its environmental programming, which allows students to draw upon a wide range of faculty with diverse environmental interests. With approximately 1,300 students, the Grenfell Campus is an ideal size to allow students to work closely with faculty in pursuit of their studies. Memorial University's MA in Environmental Policy program is one of few programs of its type in Canada. It is a rigorous, interdisciplinary study of environmental policy in terms of its theory, application, methodology, and approaches with reference to central contemporary debates. It is also an applied program that equips students with practical skills in the field making links to the labour market through a required internship program. Interdisciplinary study in the Environmental Policy program is encouraged by the University. Applicants with an interdisciplinary background or whose background combines two or more fields of study (e.g., political science, public policy, environmental studies, geography, resource management, environmental science, or public administration) would be an excellent fit for this program. The program attracts students from around the world, who regularly go on to establish professional careers in public service, private industry, and non-governmental organizations. Others have received admission to leading PhD programs.
