Career outcomes

Merril Veale, a senior nurse in Acute Paediatric at Cwm Taf Local Health Board (LHB), says, “The hallmarks of a University of South Wales nurse are academic as well as practical ability. They integrate quickly and progress well. As an LHB, we’re involved in every stage of the nurse’s training, from the initial selection of students and the content of the course to the clinical placements, which we provide in the paediatric wards and neonatal units of Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles hospitals. Every effort is made to support the students and the clinical staff who mentor them so that we end up with professional, fit-for-practice nurses who are able to perform the roles demanded of them and, just as importantly, continue to learn and develop.” Under the Socrates scheme, students on the nursing degree could also spend 15 weeks studying in Finland, Portugal, Cyprus or Germany. There are opportunities within the BN/BM programmes to undertake elective placements in the UK or abroad. The cost of travel and accommodation for these will be borne by the student.
