Globalisation has resulted in increased contact between people from different language backgrounds. Interpreters provide a critical link in facilitating communication between those who do not share a common language. The Advanced Diploma of Interpreting is best suited to candidates who have an advanced level of bilingual proficiency and general knowledge. This program trains people with advanced bilingual skills and general knowledge to facilitate cross-cultural communication, and allows you to specialise in areas such as legal and medical knowledge and terminology. Demand for qualified interpreters is increasing due to high levels of interaction between people and cultures as a result of globalised economies and advanced technology. Interpreters are employed in a range of settings from public service delivery to high-level international negotiations between governments. Graduates of this program will be qualified professional interpreters, subject to meeting accreditation standards. You may be employed as contractors to interpreting service providers or in public and private sector organisations such as hospitals, courts, businesses, government departments, or as freelancers. The qualification awarded for this program is preferred by many international/multinational organisations and agencies such as NGOs, embassies, private companies and manufacturers. The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI) professional level accreditation is well regarded in the international employment market, especially in the business and diplomatic fields.
