Art and Design Foundation Studies

Course Description

Loughborough’s Art and Design foundation is a fast paced, fun and creative course that encourages you to develop your artistic ability. You will learn a broad range of skills before tailoring the course to what you enjoy and eventually choosing the specialist undergraduate course best suited to you; 100% of our 2013 foundation students were accepted onto undergraduate degree courses. The primary aim of the foundation course is to prepare you for further education, building upon prior experience and skills. It is characterized by experiential, experimental and integrated learning, relying upon development of manual skills, whilst valuing the accidental and disruptive results that can occur. Our internationally renowned staff will help you to grow as an artist over the year, teaching you theoretical and practical learning in 3D Design, Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Illustration and Textiles. You will gain a grounding in the conceptual, practical, historical and theoretical elements of each of these subjects, and then be given the freedom to tailor the foundation course to focus on your preferred area. Our students also benefit from personal skills development and portfolio and interview guidance, giving you the transferable skills necessary to make applications to undergraduate courses and future employers.
