BA (Hons) Education Studies

Course Description

Our course is designed to help you explore the world of education and discover which aspects you are most passionate about. Through directed experiential learning, you will see first hand how theory links into practice. Whether it is in a school, or wider afield in museums, prisons, or special needs schools, you will gain a wide understanding of educational systems and practices in the UK. Should you wish to go further, study abroad options will be available to you, and you will receive support from the teaching staff to undertake your development. You will question key educational issues including the social influences surrounding how children learn and potential barriers to learning. You will study a number of topics independently and develop high level research skills. These skills will prepare you for the major independent study in your final year, which will cover an education subject of your choosing. You will also again an overview of current issues in worldwide education and how this is related to the UK system.

Career outcomes

On completing this course you will be well placed to start a career in a wide range of education or education related roles. Many students continue onto a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) to allow them to teach or continue on to specialist postgraduate courses. Others enter a variety of careers including social work, museum education, and in prisons helping to facilitate prisoners' learning.
