Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology

Course Description

This three-year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management, and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Applied research activities by Professors expose students to real life engineering practices, challenges and solutions.

Career outcomes

Students who graduate from this program will become part of the overall engineering team concerned with the design, construction, supervision and operation of all types of civil projects. Graduates will be employed by consulting engineers, surveyors, government agencies and contractors involved in road and building construction, subdivision development and testing and inspection firms.
