Bachelor programme in Interior Design

Course Description

What do they do - How many times have you walked into an upscale hotel or restaurant and been struck by the beauty of your surroundings? Maybe the decor is sophisticated, modern, and urban. Or maybe it suggests a comfortable country house or a traditional colonial estate. A well-designed environment makes you want to stay or return; a badly-designed environment makes you want to leave and never come back. Interior designers are the people who wield all this power over your mood by designing indoor environments that are pleasant, safe, and functional. Specializations - Some designers specialize in large projects such as hotels, hospitals, airports, or major office buildings. Others work on a smaller scale, helping clients to design their private homes. Getting Ahead - Can become a project manager, design-department head, or eventually an owner of a firm. Skills & Knowledge - Creativity, artistic ability, business sense, computer graphics, budgeting, knowledge of building codes & other laws & regulations. Interior designers are often confused with interior decorators, but there's a difference. An interior decorator requires no formal education, usually works on homes, and focuses mainly on furnishings and decor. Interior designers, on the other hand, are professionally educated and trained. They coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors and must understand fire codes, ergonomics, lighting, acoustics, and the implementation of technology. Finally, they must oversee the actual implementation of their design. Why study with us - This is a 3-year Bachelor programme in Interior Design. In this programme, students will learn that interior design is so much more than choosing paint colour and hanging up paintings on the wall. Great emphasis is placed on space planning, creative problem-solving, communication skills, knowledge of building materials and computer-aided drafting and the history of design. The focus of study here is on the environmental design of the home, office or commercial space, the design of products and furnishing, and materials that will enhance the aesthetic and functional systems. This program is also delivered at Raffles Design Institute, Guangzhou China. Click the following link for more details http://gz.raffles.edu.cn/en/majors/interior-design/
