Bachelor of Arts in History (BA)

Course Description

The history program at Webster combines a traditional liberal arts approach to the history degree with an innovative approach to course offerings. The faculty value critical thinking and intellectual inquiry and offer topic-specific instruction in their areas of expertise starting in students' first semester. The history curriculum also reflects relevant current events to take learning beyond the classroom and into the community: in recent years, students have designed and installed an exhibit at the old courthouse in downtown St. Louis and participated in the "Change Begins with Me" program at the Holocaust museum. Students who graduate from the history degree program have in-depth knowledge of at least one geographic area or historical epoch, the ability to make historical arguments using concrete illustrations and examples, and insight into the way history impacts the present day. Alumni go on to apply their academic knowledge in a variety of fields including law, business, politics, diplomacy, and human rights.
