Course Description

WSU offers two paths toward teaching general science in middle school or high school: A bachelor’s degree in any science (for example, geology, biology, zoology, chemistry, physics) with the teaching endorsement in general science; or A bachelor of science degree in general studies with an option in any science and the teaching endorsement in general science. The University's science programs and the College of Education work together to coordinate course work in the major with the teacher certification requirements.

Career outcomes

Science teachers may teach in public or private schools worldwide. Further study opens up possibilities as a coach, counselor, principal, or other administrative positions in schools. During the 2010–2011 school year, the standard starting annual salary for a nine-month school year was $34,506 for Washington state teachers, according to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Salaries can rise significantly with experience and additional education.
