MA International Relations and Regional Studies (IRRS)

Course Description

The Master of Arts in International Relations and Regional Studies (IRRS) is a versatile programme that prepares students for a wide range of careers in international affairs, including work for national governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector. The programme includes core courses that cover the fundamental concepts and approaches in international relations, research methods in the social sciences (and IR specifically), and provide an overview of international law, the functioning of the global economy as well as international security issues. In addition to the core module, students choose one of the three available regional specialization modules (European Union; Russia and Eurasia; Baltic Sea Region) and write a capstone MA thesis. Coursework is intellectually rigorous and emphasizes analytical writing, research competencies, as well as general-purpose skills. The curriculum ensures that graduates emerge with a comprehensive understanding of international and regional issues, and have a wide variety of skills and competencies that enable them to effectively research, discuss, and address these issues.
