Course Description

3 years full time, 4 years sandwich with work placement Our Business & Human Resource Management degree course was top-rated receiving 100% for overall student satisfaction (NSS 2017). Successful human resource management (HRM) professionals support people to achieve their potential and perform at their best for the organisation to succeed. Their role involves attracting and retaining the right people, in the right place and at the right time. These professionals also assist in the development of employees along with the somewhat complex and fascinating nature of employee welfare and employment law. We are an Approved Centre for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). This means, on graduating, your qualification is CIPD accredited and you will be eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the CIPD. CIPD qualifications are pre-requisite for most human resource management roles which employers from all business disciplines highly respect. We have a strong relationship with the CIPD at both a local and national level our academics regularly contribute to CIPD working parties and publish research papers as well as writing some of the CIPD textbooks that are used on HR courses. We have a Gold rating in teaching excellence and are ranked 30th out of 117 institutions in the subject of Business, Management and Marketing in The Guardian’s University league table for 2018. What will I experience? On this course you: will gain a good foundation in all aspects of business during your first year will be taught by a mix of HRM academics, some who have been practitioners in industry and others who are researchers – which guarantees a rich learning experience will be taught in technology enhanced learning facilities such as our Business Simulation Suite can undertake a one-year paid placement in organisations such as Honda, Bosch Home Appliances, Oracle Corporation and IBM’s European Headquarters in Portsmouth can opt to study a foreign language What opportunities might it lead to? Our HRM graduates work in a diverse range of industries. Most organisations have a team of people responsible for HRM who are not only employed in the day-to- day business of recruiting, training and managing but work as business partners and focus on longer-term business success. Here are some routes our graduates have pursued in organisations such as Reed and Kier Construction Group: HR assistant recruitment co-ordinator HR officer HR trainee manager training officer recruitment consultant This course has EPAS accreditation, which is a scheme operated by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a European network that promotes and enhances excellence in management development internationally.
