Students admitted to this program will be allowed to: apply three engineering courses (9 s.h.) towards both the B.S. and M.S. degree requirements; take an additional 3 s.h. of graduate coursework before completing their BS; and attend and participate in the departmental graduate seminar. The intent of the program is to allow an early entrance to graduate school for our most able students. Students applying for the BS/MS program with the MS/Non-thesis option must hold a GPA of 3.0 at the time of their application to be admitted into the program. Those intending to pursue the MS/Thesis option through the BS/MS program must have a GPA of 3.25 at the time of their application to the program. Admission into the BS/MS program is based on the student’s academic record. To apply to the fast-track combined degree program, a student must identify a faculty adviser. The advisor should guide the student during the second semester of the senior year, and until the completion of the M.S. degree.

Career outcomes

On average, 93-98 percent of Iowa engineering graduates are employed in their field of study or pursuing advanced education within seven months of graduation. Engineering is a well-respected profession that is used as a foundation for a variety of careers in industry, medicine, law, government, and consulting. Engineering majors hold eight of the top ten spots on the list of top-paid majors for bachelor's degree graduates, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Engineering Professional Development (EPD) develops and promotes experiential education and professional opportunities for students. Professional staff coordinate the college's co-op and internship program, engage in employer outreach, and provide opportunities for students to network with employers, including an engineering career fair and other career-development programming each semester. EPD also offers individual advising and class presentations on resume and cover letter preparation, job and internship search strategies, interviewing skills, and job offer evaluation.
