BA in Economics

Course Description

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics prepares students for well-paying positions in both business and government. Economists work in all facets of the business world, including banking, insurance, mining, manufacturing, and retailing. Since economists are trained to think analytically and critically to solve complex issues, a degree in economics is one of the best majors for students intending to enter a master of Business Administration program, as the economics degree will develop the skills that business schools are looking for in their applicants. For the same reason, economics is one of the best undergraduate preparations for law school. The economics profession has grown rapidly since the end of World War II. In today’s globalized economy, both large and small firms hire economists. Larger firms frequently have large divisions dedicated to economic research, while smaller firms tend to rely on economists to help in finance, planning, and forecasting.
