BSc Construction Project Management

Course Description

Construction Project management is concerned with the co-ordination control and monitoring of all the various planning, operations and processes in building construction. To perform all these tasks, construction managers need to develop leadership, organisational and people skills based on a sound knowledge of construction technology. In addition professional construction managers need a clear understanding of the construction industry, economics and legal aspects of building construction. Employment prospects for graduates of the course are particularly good given the national and international reputation of the course. On graduating from this course you will: Understand the construction and production processes related to building projects Understand and manage the operational, financial and contractual aspects of the construction processes Have a detailed knowledge of the procurement, planning and programming arrangements needed to produce building projects Have intellectual and research skills appropriate to professional work in these disciplines; Have a range of transferable skills in information technology, communication and team working; Be able to evaluate complex problems and formulate original ideas and proposals in the field of the built environment. A qualification accepted by the BCA for registering as a Technical Controller GB Class 1 under the licensing of the Builders Act. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management are eligible to register as a Chartered Building Engineer (UK). Graduates with relevant employment experience and who meet the progression requirements may be considered for further study at postgraduate level. All applications will be processed directly by Heriot-Watt University.
