Course Description

n today’s world, energy is an integral part of our lives, and oil and natural gas are synonymous with energy. Over seventy percent of the energy consumed in the United States come from petroleum. In order to ensure our future, a balance between sustainability, efficiency, and affordability needs to be maintained. Petroleum engineering seeks to address these concerns and offer solutions. Petroleum engineers come from a variety of backgrounds, but all have strong foundations in math, physics, geology, and chemistry and use advanced computer technology. They work with and in nature, and are constantly working towards the development and application of new technologies and techniques to improve oil and gas recovery and its impact upon the natural world. Petroleum engineers are also master problem solvers who tackle various challenges such as technology, economics, and politics. A career in petroleum engineering allows one to have new experiences each day, and, because of the worldwide operations of most petroleum companies, the opportunity to experience new places and cultures.
