Course Description

The PhD in IDS is a fully interdisciplinary doctoral program committed to integrating and synthesizing the methods and theories of the social science disciplines to undertake original research related to the political economy of globalization. In addition to resident IDS faculty, all of whom have substantial national and international reputations both as scholars and development practitioners, the PhD Program is a member of international consortia of doctoral programs whose participating faculty frequently serve as seminar instructors, supervisors, readers and external examiners for the PhD in IDS. The IDS Program is host to the Canada Research Chair in International Development Studies, the Distinguished Visiting Professor Program, and a special Distinguished Visiting Scholar Program. The PhD Program has limited coursework, and concentrates fully on the research, writing, and public defense of a doctoral dissertation which will make a substantial contribution to international development knowledge and practice.
