Course Details

BS in Biology

Course Description

Biology is the study of life and living things. As a student in the Department of Biological Sciences, you will study the chemistry of living things (biochemistry) and the structure and function of cells, the basic unit of life. Beginning at the molecular level, you will learn how cells are organized into tissues, those tissues organized into organs, organ systems, and then whole multicellular organisms. The diversity of life-plants, animals, fungi, protozoans, and bacteria-is yours to be studied on the organismal level. You will study how these individual organisms can live together in populations, communities, ecosystems, forming the entire biosphere. Opportunities for study of the behavioral sciences are open as well, analyzing and interpreting the interactions and relationships between organisms. Since biology is built on the physical sciences (such as chemistry, physics, and earth science) and mathematics, you will also receive a strong foundation in these areas.
