Course Details

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.)

Course Description

The Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine (MWU-CVM) presents to its students a four year program leading to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. The first 8 quarters are a mix of classroom lectures, laboratories, simulation lab exercises with virtual clients and patients, and small group student-centered learning experiences. Hands-on live animal contact begins in the first quarter and continues throughout the program. Quarters 9-13 involve diverse clinical training, both on campus (about 85%) and at external sites (about 15%). Three new buildings, including a 109,000 square foot small animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital and a roughly 36,000 square foot large animal / pathology facility, insure our students will begin their careers in state of the art surroundings. The MWU-CVM has received a Letter of Reasonable Assurance from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education. This notification clears the way for the College to begin admitting students to its inaugural class of 100 students who are scheduled to matriculate in August 2014. It further indicates the University and College submitted a plan which successfully met the 11 standards required by the AVMA to become accredited. The program will be eligible for provisional accreditation in 2014 and full accreditation in 2018, upon graduation of the first class.
