Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology

Course Description

Humber’s Civil Engineering Technology advanced diploma program provides you with the skills needed to have a career in the growing field of building planning and technology. In six semesters, our graduates learn to design and construct municipal infrastructure, including concrete, steel and timber structures. Learn how to: – produce plans for subdivisions, highways and sites by using electronic surveying and global positioning equipment – use computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software and structural analysis software to draw, design, and produce graphics for the construction of bridges, buildings and dams – design and operate drinking water and wastewater treatment systems, as well as water distribution and sewage collection systems – project manage, laboratory soil test and determine construction material suitability. At Humber, you will learn from industry experts, many who work with Greater Toronto Area construction and engineering firms. Our industry partners provide placement opportunities and guidance on how to make the curriculum current and relevant. Humber has a strong reputation in the civil engineering industry, giving you an edge in the employment market.

Career outcomes

Our graduates may choose to work in the public or private sectors of industry. They work for a number of employers including municipalities, engineering consulting firms, general contractors, builder/developers, architects, land or quantity surveyors, and environmental agencies. Career options include working as structural designers, project and/or construction managers, inspectors, contract administrators, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) operators, land or quantity surveyors, in environmental protection, and as drinking water system operators.
