General biology provides a broader background than the other more specialized options. It allows the student more flexibility in the choice of courses and can be customized to fit an individual student's interests and goals. The General Biology option is recommended for students who have an interest in studying the life sciences, but in a less specific program. Your studies will include a wide range of material spanning many areas of biological science. Our students can also select elective courses from a variety of areas, including cell and molecular biology, organismic biology, marine biology, ecology and aquaculture.

Biology graduates work in both commercial enterprises and government agencies, often doing scientific research and analysis related to conservation and health. Biological science graduates often find their first jobs at research-based non-governmental organizations, zoos and aquariums, state and federal agencies, and schools, museums and other educational nonprofits.
