Papers in Tikanga Māori (Māori Cultural Studies) are an expression of the University’s intention to meet its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and also show the commitment to Māori development. It is important that all New Zealanders have a basic understanding of the Māori world-view and as a result we offer introductory and advanced papers in an inclusive and safe environment. There are a range of exciting cultural papers for your choosing and depending on your interests including kapa haka, ngā taonga pūoro, creative technologies such as raranga kete and contemporary performing arts, which bring a new dimension to the evolution of the Māori art world. We also offer papers on the Treaty of Waitangi. A programme in Tikanga Māori gives students the opportunity to study Māori cultural studies to a high level of competency.
